NEW RECORD

Who's the man now Dog?!

Carpool?

I recently spoke with a good friend of mine living in NYC who desperately wants to come down to Baltimore for the opening on the 27th, but lacks the necessary transportation to make it down and still work a (semi) full day. So my question for all of you guys is if you happen to know of anyone living in the NYC area who will be driving down for the show on the 27th and would be willing to carpool.

Thanks for your help!

stoked!

hello all. just wanted to share how excited i am about everyone's work & the show finally coming together (*almost)! it's going to be a busy few weeks up until final reviews/"the opening", but it will be worth it once the show is hung and everything looks fabulous. hopefully then we can all get together outside of the studio to relax and celebrate a little bit. until then, good luck to all - i'll be around more often in the studio finishing up editing/postproduction on my video. see yous around.

OTT IN OMERIKKA

So I had some coffee at around 3:00 yesterday, which kept me up to 3:00 this morning. So I went downstairs and was reading Art in America. So imagine my surprise to find all the MICA MFA shows and the MADA and Graphic Designs shows listed in a half page ad, along with the names of each presenting artist. So, yes, it's your first mention in Ott in Omerikka, call the parents and tell them to buy it. So see you.

bear with me please. i need to rant.

so i went to the Y today to swim.
while i was doing so, some ghetto ass mother fucker who should die in a fire jacked my cell phone, which was in my purse, which was in my backpack, which was in my locker. not the credit cards. not the checks. not the ipod. not the clothes. the cell phone. the one with my entire thesis of original thesis videos. the one that i still need to shoot the remaining thesis video's with. yes, that one. the one thats like 300 bucks, which i dont fucking have that money to replace it with, because, oh thats right, i just got a house.
so basically, because i went to the gym where people go, my one device that i use to shoot my videos, which should earn me a masters degree, is gone. awesome.
im not crying because i dont have 300 bucks. im not crying because i have to get a new one. im crying because the video's that i shot today, the images i havnt uploaded yet of my beautiful dog and my beautiful friend aiden and my beautiful friend cressy, those images, which mean the entire world to me, which i havnt yet uploaded yet, are all non existant. and i have 4 goddamn weeks to produce a cohearant thesis, and no device to do it with and i dont exactly have an extra 300 dollars just laying around to get a new phone. if i did i probably would have already used that money to buy something i needed, like a security deposit on my house in richmond.
however, i did call sprint, and cancelled the accessability on the phone so whatever stupid bitch jacked it cant get it activated. asshole.
no really, im not stressed out. (note my sarcasm)
i swear to jesus christ and all that is fucking holy the next person that crosses my path, for any reason, is going to get stabbed.
seriously, what the fuck did someone think they were going to do with 300+ naked picutres, text messages and still photo's of Grrr.
ok, im done.
if i had a cell phone id be doing all this bitching to cressy or aiden, but the main reason im bitching is because, well, i dont have a cell phone.

I did some research on postcard prices and different venders to use. Below I have listed the prices from the two places I have been referred to, overnightprints.com and modern postcards. Here are the pricing options:

Overnightprints.com -

There are a few more options with overnightprints - we can add rounded corners for $2 extra per 100ct. And we can have either glossy or satin matte finish for the front. Chris Lavoie used this company for the Figment of Speech postcards just to give you an idea.

Let me know what you all think is the best option.
Thanks!

ARTIST TALK IDEA

Hey, I am growing even more demented as the minutes pass. I have an idea that, even though we are not required to do artist talks, some people might want to do it anyway. My idea also is that some people will not be able to be at our show on friday night perhaps. So what if we decided to have a few artist talks (for whoever wanted to do it) on Sunday, like mid-day or early afternoon, or some such time. This could just be another time to invite people who may not be able to make it on Friday, with the bonus of a few presentations. We could even put this on the post card perhaps and whoever wanted to say a few words informally at that point could do so. It could be as small as explaining your process or just answering whatever question comes up or as large as examining in minute detail the relationship between your work and the Lacan's essay on the insistence of the letter in the unconscious. So shoot this idea down if you hate it, or get on board with it and incorporate it into your new reality. Either way is good and will make us all feel happy deep down in our bones.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! PRINTING SECRET

Hey, I am growing increasingly demented as the semester goes on, so I have in a severe lapse of judgment agreed to be a printing assistant in the grad lab. So what this means is that you can make appointments with me to print on the Epson 9800 on Wednesdays (exact hours not yet determined). While anyone can make an appt., of course if MADA folks make their appointments with me first, they will be first served. So if you have big dildo or a fried host that you want to print out, let me know and I will try to make you a big assed print of it. This starts today and goes until I die or am expelled.

In high Demand...

So yet again the date for Demand at the BMA got screwed up, this time by yours truly. I was 100% positive that the 21st was a Thursday. The calendars must have lied to me. Anyway it is 7 pm TONIGHT at the BMA.
Also...there will be no LOST in the lab tonight due to lack of ears.

Postcard Concepts (round two)

I realize this may be a bit of an inside joke...but I figured I'd pitch the idea and see what everyone thinks. As fas as the color is concerned I'm open to suggestions. Maybe we could have a contest to pick the color...the one with the most colorful MADA related name wins!

Mounting

For those of you who are interested in mounting flush for the show I have been in touch with a guy from Severn over the last couple days about prices and timing. Below is the information I received from him so far regarding Centra and Aluminum. If you know of any other material you would like to use, let me know and I can ask the next time I'm talking to him. Or, I guess, you can just call yourself...
Both quotes below are for a 20"x 30" print

Centra: $36 for a 1/8" thick board; $56 for a 1/4" thick board
To get your prints done in time for the show, he recommends giving them at least 3 - 5 days to get them done.

Aluminum: pricing not yet available. he has to send for the prices, as soon as he has them he will call me with the info.
He recommends giving them at least 2 weeks to get the prints done before the show.

He had some other recommendations regarding cropping and prints. For Aluminum and even Centra he recommends bringing in multiple prints in case anything goes wrong, especially for the aluminum since it seems to be a difficult process. You should also leave yourself some bleed around the edge of your prints so that when they are cutting everything they don't cut into the image.
I also think that if enough of us are going to be mounting with Severn I may be able to get us a price cut or something and I'm going to ask that if they do mess up our prints while attempting to mount that the price should then be reduced.
I'll keep you all updated once I hear back from him.

Double Digits

As of this afternoon I have officially been rejected by ten schools in my three year pursuit of an MFA. This number reflects individual institutions (rather than programs) and does not include multiple applications (having applied to various MICA programs each of the past three years). At present there are still two pending applications (MICA and SUNY Brockport) and one instance of being listed as an alternate (Alfred), as such there is still a very real potential for even greater levels of rejection. I would like to thank all of you for helping me to make this day possible, you're continued support has meant a great deal to me, and I'd like to celebrate this momentous occasion with drinks tonight at Birds of a Feather.

I wish to come where mada is and watcch a picture with you and also see all the money in big piles all everywhere. is this what mada is a machine that makes of the picture a money or more and more of the money? i am happy with idea that this mada may be of this and many people sit down together in the piles of money and share a story or two. That will be of a good time where it is warm, there is a friendly people there and the people all have of the money, enough to pay for coloured fish and a big drink. This is what of me make me feel warm inside. This is of yoiur friend Gorgioe, who is a one of the MADA. I am with my happynis, georgie.

Nia's Idea pt 2

yeah, the images are a little large, and are slightly cut off. hmmmmmm.
you get the idea though. ill bring the files on tuesday as well so yall can see better.

Nia's idea

basically, mine would allow each of us to have a 1x1in square to design in. this box could contain anything from a random google image search, a priview of your piece, just your name or nothing at all. its all about all 14 of us having a tiny canvas to work in in order to attempt to bring some individuality to the postcard so that all of us can be represented how we want. i think that since this is a masters thesis show, and kind of a big deal, we all need to be equally represented.
one drawing is a template and the other is just some random images i added as filler to give you an idea of what it would look like. the only thing that isnt random filler is the paper towels (halloween, andrew!) and the pennies (for penny). enjoy

Postcards

So apparently blogger's image hosting capabilities suck. I'm not sure if my file was just too big or what, but I used ImageShack and it uploaded without a problem. Anyway, most of you have already seen these two, but I figured I'd show them again, if only to get the ball rolling.

Don't forget to leave feedback!

Posting Images

Is anybody else having problems uploading images? I've tried at least five times now to upload some post-card concepts but nothing seems to be happening. Any ideas?

3/15 De/Assembled Body by Elizabeth Crisman

Hello,

This Thursday Beth (GradPhotoAlumni) is having an art opening at the Loads of Fun gallery right on North Ave.....I've introduced her to a lot of you and I really like her work....so I think we should go!! Who's with me?

Reception:
3/15
5pm - 7pm
Load of Fun Gallerie, 120 W. North Ave., Baltimore MD, 21201

MAP

Helene has been nice enough to share information she has received from MAP recently. There is WAY too much to post, so here is the link:

http://www.mdartplace.org/emails/artworks/artworks_spring2007.htm

Two things...

#1: I seem to have forgotten about Crisis so meeting at 7pm is a must. I hope everyone can make it.
#2: I thought it would be interesting if we could have a print exchange at the end of the semester.
I know not everyone is producing print material and the people who are may not want to participate, but I just wanted to throw it out there and see what stuck. I just know all of you are dying for an image of a rest stop - hey, I'll even throw in a medium fry and a coke!

what the fudge

Mark - You've got to be kidding me...

p.s. I second you on that Nia. I love Courtney when it comes to rocking out and being ridiculous, but she has been fighting with dave and the other guy over the Nirvana song rights for years. It appears she won and has now single handedly ruined it for all of eternity.

why i hate cortney love.

ok, so she wasnt that bad at first, i actually respected her for doing what the hell she wanted all the time. i didnt think she killed curt. she was alright.
but then this came on, and now i want her to die. watch the first 30 seconds, its the actual commercial and it will make you cry.
she sold the song "breed" to some lame ass video game.....cuz that doesnt go totally against what nirvana stood for or anything (note my sarcasm). i expected dave grohl and that guy no one cares about to sell out, but courtney?!

Hello, name is Georgie and may I write in your blog sometime?? I like scooters, vacations, and fall, so perhaps I am OK? I am not posted in blog before, or only once and It was not good. A man come to my door from he say NASA and ask to take my computer, but I talk him out of it. He say he come back if I not more careful, but I will be careful I promise. Your blog seems very nice, I mean the colours are nice and I like the letters, they are good. I not know what MADA is, but I am sure it is a nice thing where I will be OK and people will be nicely. I think at MADA it is warm, there are smelly flowers, and a small pond is with coloured fish swimming. The water with bubbles up and when people see someone they smile and give you a declicious thing to eat. Is this the way it is , and where are you? Do you live in one place and share your dishes? How many times have you been this way, with squares to write letters and orange and blue buttons to push? Write a letter back to me, since I am nice and like you alot much.

Let the PR begin

Before we left for break we discussed, allbeit briefly, putting together our own gallery guide and postcards for our show. I was hoping that we could meet this Tuesday after seminar? If we could meet for maybe 20 minutes to discuss some ideas we may have and go from there. I'm a little worried about time so the sooner we start talking about this the better.
Also! If you have some ideas, put them on paper and bring them to discussion. Visuals are always good! If anyone can't meet after seminar, maybe we can settle on a more convenient time. Let me know.

¡Fixed!

I am sorry for the faulty links!
