Juxtapositions

So I'm sure by now everyone has received the email from René Treviño regarding the upcoming Juxtapositions issue. For those who haven't had a chance to read it, there are a couple of lines that have raised some red flags, most notably:

Some students have
expressed concern that the issue is not as inclusive as it has been in years
past.

made the decision to streamline the content included within the
issue.

and perhaps most disturbingly of all:

Everyone benefits from
these changes.

While he also mentions that each show this year will have an accompanying gallery guilde...and that this guide will feature images and bios for all the artists in the show...he never states that the all the artists will appear in Juxtapositions or that the gallery guides will be included with the publication. Also, what control will we have, if any, over the gallery guides? I know we have talked about designing our own, is there any chance we could design our own gallery guide, or is this one of those one size fits all "you take what we give you" kind of thing?

Does anyone else get the sneaking suspicion that MADA may be getting the shaft...yet again?

I'm going to try and get ahold of a copy of Juxtapositions today and find out.

PS - I know there's an upcoming Grad Student Union meeting this at noon (which I can't attend due to class), and from the sounds of it the Juxtapositions magazine may be a topic of discussion (as there are apparently some people out there already unhappy with the publication). If anyone plans to attend it will be held at 4th Bank (in the space between Photo and Hoffberger).

As far as the gallery guide, I think that it will be something like what they do for many of the exhibits (ex. Lynn Silverman's show in Bunting). I know that we have tossed around the idea of putting together our own gallery guide, and I think that it might still be a good idea. While I suspect that the MICA version will have only one image per student, a publication that we construct would allow for multiple images (depending on layout, all of the work could be included). Think of it as an exhibition catalogue for the MADA 0607 thesis exhibition that would work in tandem with the gallery guide.

Nevertheless, I do think that we should be involved with the content of the gallery guide. If for no other reason, than that some of the images submitted in early January might no longer be applicable to our thesis.
